Meet Jacquelyn Marincovich

Hello everyone! My name is Jacquelyn Marincovich, but I usually just go by Jackie. I'm 20 years old and this is my second year of college. My main career goal is to become an RN; more specifically, I'd like to work with hospice patients. To a lot of people, it seems strange why I'd choose hospice. But, I decided that it was my "calling" after spending over a year working at Clatsop Care Center as a certified nurse's assistant and taking care of many hospice patients who were at the end-stages of illness. To me it's very meaningful and an honor to be able to spend someone's last moments with them, take care of them, and be there for the families.

At the moment, I work at Columbia Memorial hospital in Med/Surg as a certified nurses assistant. It's a lot of fun, but sometimes very stressful! I balance it with school, which is sometimes tough and results in me coming to class late. When I'm not working or studying, I like to spend my time reading, drawing, hiking, baking, and going to the gym. I'm also very interested subjects involving science.

Additionally, I'm very concerned and interested in patient advocacy in health care facilities. I believe it is imperative that every patient gets their healthcare needs met and are receiving the best care possible. I believe in holistic healthcare: caring for the patient's spiritual and emotional needs, not just diagnosis related treatments. Also, I strongly feel that healthcare needs to focus more on educating the patient about preventative measures (not just sending the patient home with several medications, each with laundry lists of adverse side effects), and thoroughly explaining treatment options in a simplified and easy to understand way.
Thanks for reading! I hope to get the chance to talk with everyone more in class.
