In the article "Beauty...and the Beast of Advertising" Jean Kilbourne focuses on the portrayal of women in advertisements. Kilbourne address the fact that women are portrayed as either "housewives or sex objects". The article also talks about how even "the natural" look in advertising is very artificial and this gives our society a false set of expectations when it comes to outward appearance (Kilbourne). Women are expected to be thin, tall, young, and beautiful (Kilbourne). This these unrealistic expectations are affecting adolescents more than any age group because they are young and impressionable (Killbourne). Over all this article address the fact that the advertising industry needs to change their message about what it is to be a woman.
